Pat Martino (1944 – 2021)

 Very sad news. Pat Martino, the legendary jazz guitarist, was a musician I discovered when I was fervently exploring the realms of jazz guitar.  The first album I listened to was the 1972 "The Visit". Afterward, I listened to 1968 "East" and then the 1974 "Consciousness". 

His masterful music always absorbed my attention. The key event that made his career more intriguing is the brain injury that led to his amnesia. The memory loss forced Mr. Martino to re-learn all his previous music. This was an uphill battle but boy how fruitful and inspiring all this endeavor turned out to be.

Spooky Action at a Distance

Some sonic adventures and some old interests retrieved.
1- Joe Satriani's "The Extremist" (1992). Soulful and technically gifted virtuoso which truly inspires.  
2-An Autumn For Crippled Children "Lost" (2010):  I'd read a number of favorable reviews on this belgian black metal band and i have to say it met my expectations.
3-"Spooky Action at a Distance" (2012) by Lotus Plaza:An indie rock band which is the solo project of Lockett Pundt.
4-Ghastly City Sleep "Moondrifts" (2010): Post-rock music
5-Saturnus "The Saturn Is Rising" (2012): Long anticipated album by death/doom metal giants. I still find them innovative, emotive and loyal to elements of the genre. Guitar riffs are still so catchy...so killing.
6-Richard Edward Horner: I found this artist through his websites. He's a composer and guitar virtuoso.
7-Tim Brady: canadian composer and electric guitarist.

Evoken : A Caress of The Void 2007

I found some novel dimensions of their music.The concept is surprisingly familiar entwined with illustrious verses and words.Evoken is for and about the patient listener.It's against all trade marks and commercial tips.It's dark,deep and desolate.

Once you feel it's simply easy with down-tunned slow guitar riffs and sluggish tempo,but that's exactly where the paradox arises; they've created a unique sound ,a theatrical vision and a horror atmosphere at a near perfect level.

The ensemble of piano/keyboard ,bass, lead guitar and the combination of Death growl/soft whispers is a solid composition. Undoubtedly one of the pioneers of Funeral Doom .

I'm Missing You, Mr. Jack Rose!

How silently a genius faded away...A criminally underrated guitar player.

His music is astonishing,touchy,and too dynamic.

I believe his music was too deep,too soulful to be presented by TV channels or be shared in social media ! He was too decent to become a public figure i assume!

"Luck In The Valley", Rose's final LP, was released posthumously on February 23, 2010
