The Ghost and Mrs Muir (1947)

In 1900, strong-willed widow Lucy Muir goes to live in Gull Cottage by the British seaside, even though it appears to be haunted. Sure enough, that very night she meets the ghost of crusty former owner Captain Gregg...and refuses to be scared off. Indeed, they become friends and allies, after Lucy gets used to the idea of a man's ghost haunting her bedroom. But when a charming live man comes courting, Lucy and the captain must deal with their feelings for each other...(Plot From IMDB)
It was a wonderful experience .I liked the angle the movie kept toward the curious confrontation of dream/reality.Captain Gregg provides some invaluable opportunities for Mrs Muir, dictates the words of his autobiography to her (which turns to a very successful novel),guarantees her little daughter's safety and comfort in the infamous and haunted Gull Cottage...
But when it comes to a living matter no matter how lower it seems and how cheating it is...it steals the show. And the ghost is forced to get invisble again.
It's live and touchable object that produces more effervescence,as it's a world conquered by no wisdom. One sees and fells the profound and pure inspirations but yet finds herself/himself helpless  against her/his basic instincts.
It was the second fim directed by Joseph Mankiewicz i watched;the first one was "The Barefoot Contessa" (1954),starring Humphrey Bogart,Ava Gardner and Edomond O'brien(who won oscar as best actor in supporting role).
The original music is composed by Bernard Hermann(The man behind the low woodwinds that open Citizen Kane, the shrieking violins of Psycho, and the plaintive saxophone of Taxi Driver was one of the most original and distinctive composers ever to work in film>>>IMDB).i highly enjoyed the music,it certainly added some color to the romantic side of the story.
It was a heartfelt movie,i checked the credits last night, and it's a naive sense when you find out all of them are dead right now .Even little Anna(Natalie Wood) ,who drowned in 1981 at the age of 43  .The life of Rex Harrison, how far it was from Captain Gregg's principles !
It was the fist time i watched a movie of Gene Tierney;a beauty of her time apparently,..she managed to add a certain depth to Mrs Muir solid character.I read about her mental illness , a severe bipolar disorder lead to her frequent admimissions and receiving 27 shock treatments.
To me this movie was more than a pleasant cinematic issue,..
A walk of decades in corridors of time ,watching all the transcendent tangible experiences of our kind.
